Kurtis Vu, M.A.

Psy.D. Doctoral Clinical Trainee

Kurtis is a PsyD doctoral clinical trainee with a focus in neuropsychology. His training has taken place in medical, rehabilitation, and behavioral health settings, where he works with individuals experiencing cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes related to neurological conditions, injury, and mental health concerns. He initially entered graduate training with a strong interest in neuropsychological assessment and brain-based research, particularly in areas such as traumatic brain injury and recovery, but his clinical work has expanded that focus to include therapy as a central part of helping individuals navigate real-world change.
Kurtis has experience working with individuals across the lifespan who are adjusting to changes in cognitive functioning, emotional well-being, and daily independence. His perspective has been shaped by work in rehabilitation settings, where the impact of injury or illness often extends beyond symptoms into identity, confidence, relationships, and overall quality of life. His background in competitive basketball also informs his clinical interests, particularly in understanding performance pressure, resilience, and the mental side of recovery across both sports and everyday life. This perspective helps him meet clients where they are, especially when they are navigating pressure, setbacks, or changes in how they see themselves.
In therapy, Kurtis takes a collaborative, direct, and individualized approach. He integrates evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), while remaining flexible and focused on what is most helpful for each client. He aims to create a space that feels supportive, genuine, and easy to engage in, where clients can speak openly, feel understood, and begin to make sense of what they are going through. While he values insight and deeper understanding, he also believes therapy should be practical and useful, helping clients build tools and perspectives that carry into their everyday lives.
Kurtis is currently supervised by Dr. Kanchi.
